Miami Swim Fashion Week 2012: Swimwear wrap-up
Summer is always a favorite season for all. Think cold margaritas by the pool, vacations to the beach islands or good times in Palm Springs. The only worry should be what to wear. Luckily, the upcoming season is chock-full of options such as stylish one-pieces with unique silhouettes, monokinis, retro vibes, and bandeau and halter variations, reported Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.
Spring 2012 swimwear looks and silhouettes took cues from retro vibes and styles from the ‘90s. Bandeau, halter and underwire tops were all popular, fashion-forward choices. Designers created different bandeau ensembles by going strapless like Poko Pano, or halter-style as did Aqua Di Lara. Underwire push-up tops were kept traditional with simple shoulder straps. The underwire tops took a nod toward retro when paired with high-waisted bottoms, exuding a pin-up or rockabilly girl attitude.
Several collections—including Wildfox, Nicolita, Norma Kamali and White Sands Australia—showed the throwback look in modern materials for a great style update. Norma Kamali embraced the rockabilly girl with cat-eye sunglasses and curled bangs. Popular in the ‘90s, halter tops are making a comeback in swimwear. Aqua Di Lara revisited the halter in a colorful print and added a keyhole for detailing. Designers also continued easy triangle tops and string bottoms as simple go-to staples.

One-piece suits definitely made their mark this season in different forms. AZ Araujo’s futuristic one-shoulder suit had cutouts to show off the cleavage and stomach. Aquaclara’s one-piece suits eliminated most of the traditional suit, leaving a bandeau with a T-bar connecting to the bottom, also known as the monokini. Other designers went strapless: Norma Kamali’s nude ruched one-piece fit right with the retro theme of her collection, while White Sands Australia’s interesting silhouettes took a modern route and highlighted the shoulders. Designers also kept the one-piece in its original form in classic black. Norma Kamali and White Sands Australia’s plunge-front ruched halters offered another sexy one-piece option.
With all the exciting trends and colors displayed for the upcoming 2012 season, beach babes have plenty to look forward to.
