“Tony Duquette: Jewels of Enchantment” Bonhams auction begins October 15
On October 15, Bonhams is launching the “Tony Duquette: Jewels of Enchantment” auction featuring 80 lots of one-of-a-kind designs from the extraordinary designer and lifestyle tastemaker, Tony Duquette. The privately owned British auction house will be offering the largest collection of Duquette fine jewels to come to sale at the New York location. This impressive auction follows the successful Bonhams 2011 “Talismans of Power” auction, which showcased the jewelry designer’s work featuring gold plated-silver, exotic and semi-precious stones, and geodes.
Susan Abeles, head of jewelry US, states, “Color, texture and movement are the signature characteristics that define the jewels of Tony Duquette. Along with his business partner, Hutton Wilkinson, Duquette has created amazing, fantastical adornments for decades. Inspired by nature and using clever juxtaposition, the two have created powerful and enchanting gem statements that continue to attract artistic and affluent international patronage and confident women.”
The exceptional assortment of “Tony Duquette: Jewels of Enchantment” is composed of the finest materials and precious stones that will not only be appreciated by Duquette enthusiasts but also by fashion and art aficionados. Highlighted in the auction are a number of decadent pieces, including an abalone shell and South Sea cultured necklace, created as a series of graduated abalone shell panels detailed with 14 baroque cultured pearls; a stunning multi-colored bib necklace boasting various shapes of blue, yellow, pink and purple cabochon sapphires; a bicolor tourmaline and moonstone necklace designed as 12 tapered rectangular panels of rough bicolor tourmaline centering an oval-shaped cabochon moonstone; and a moonstone and gem-set necklace designed as a series of floral clusters accentuated by ruby leaves with green tourmaline details.
