Spring 2013 runway trends: lightweight leather pants
Leather pants have become a runway and wardrobe favorite, but in Spring 2013, the edgy piece gets a chic update. The usual skintight style has evolved into a loose, relaxed silhouette made in lightweight leather. Shapes ranged from palazzo trousers to capris and culottes to track pants. Colors of brown, sea foam, cognac and blue also replaced the once-upon-a-time strictly black ideal. Leather pants 2.0 works effortlessly for the mild rain or shine season with its upbeat attitude.p>
Fendi’s collection was a meeting of modernism and meditation. Made impressively by hand and completely seamless, the assortment mixed a myriad of fabrications throughout geometric or volumized silhouettes. Leather crept in through oversized jackets, culottes and cropped numbers with two-tone elements. Designers Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi utilized an earthy brown palette to give the material a new point of view.
Genny’s designer, Gabriele Colangelo, may not be getting rave reviews but his work with leather is no disappointment. Loose leather trousers appeared among his assortment of wide leg palazzo pants. Airy was the idea here and the concept was further accomplished with a buttery shade of sea foam green leather paired with sandy neutrals.
In a yellow, rust and blue collection, Trussardi gave Spring 2013 several unexpected versions of leather, including trench coat dresses, jumpsuits, blazers and of course trousers. Designer Umit Benan went relaxed with his story. The cool pants landed easily at the waist, remaining loose throughout the leg almost like sweatpants.
