Resort 2013: Thakoon
In between the major Spring and Fall seasons, Thakoon Panichgal tends to mellow out. Last Fall, his collection took on confession booth screens and bleeding hearts to channel the red light district, while the previous Spring culled Indian influences for a loud, East-meets-West theme. But it is during interim seasons of Pre-Fall and Resort that Panichgal takes a moment to relax in soft candy colors, displayed in the mint, bubble gum pink and cyan blue of the Thakoon Resort 2013 collection.

The new line is a lesson in mixed prints, which isn’t exactly new to the runway but Panichgal’s vision was definitely wearable. There were plenty of stripes in thick and thin variations, colored up in pastels and running horizontally or even diagonally. The designer wasn’t shy about mixing the stripes together with knit jumpers combined with wrapped miniskirts, or with reinventing jacquard organza into 3D gingham for otherwise classic dress silhouettes. The playful aesthetic continued with vibrant flouncy kick skirts and printed loose high-waisted shorts styled with mix-media tops. Cinched waist dresses and daydresses also played to flirty themes with staggering, misaligned stripes, florals and dizzying graphics.

Looks like Thakoon’s Resort collection was a sweet, feminine one.
