Pre-Fall 2012 trends: collarless jackets
As summer draws to a close and the weather begins to cool down, outerwear re-enters wardrobes as a key category. This Pre-Fall 2012, the minimalist collarless jacket emerges as a must-have silhouette. The style features rounded necklines and is often embellished with trim, boxy shapes and unique closures such as fasteners and snaps. Designers including Thakoon Addition, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Fendi and Moschino Cheap & Chic created further interest by using boucle knits, colored leather and juxtaposing fabrics. With its stylish simplicity, the collarless jacket makes for versatile outerwear that can be dressed up or down.
3.1 Phillip Lim’s notch sleeve mélange jacket is fresh in a marled textured antique white boucle. The streamlined piece is complemented with a hidden zipper, welt pockets and speckled trim. Pair the collarless jacket with white pants and silver accessories for a crisp outfit. Round out the look with metallic pumps from Edmundo Castillo.
With a unique shape, Faith Connexion’s peplum tweed jacket is prim and proper with a twist. The fitted style shimmers with iridescent threads woven through the material and is contrasted with leather trim. Layer over a printed button-up shirt and leather pants for a downtown look. To create an office ensemble, swap the pants for a pencil skirt and step into pointed toe pumps.
In A.L.C.’s Sadie moto jacket, leather sleeves are united with a fur shell for a standout look. With its waist-defining silhouette and off-centered zipper, LadyLUX Founder and CEO Elizabeth Wahler recommends A.L.C.’s collarless jacket for curvy figures. Bring a little edge to floral ladylike dresses or simply couple with distressed jeans and a white shirt for a cool model-off-duty ensemble.
Étoile Isabel Marant marries shades of wine, mustard and fuchsia in an intricate woven for the Monty boucle jacket. The combination of a round neckline and padded shoulders construct a bold profile. Allow the colorful collarless outerwear to bring extra character to colored denim skinnies or even a plaid button-up. Either way, toughen up the refined material with open-toe booties.
Adding some color fun, Étoile Isabel Marant amped up a collarless leather jacket with framboise red. The progressive style is enhanced with chunky silver metal zippers on the pockets and cuffs. Style with a little black dress or contrast with opulent fall materials like velvet and suede.
Diane von Furstenberg’s boxy Emily jacket is understated and chic. The light mocha style boasts contrast piping trim and a hidden zipped closure. The soft color and easy-going style makes for an effortless staple that can be worn with jeans or flared skirts. Add interest with textured snakeskin heels.
Alice and Olivia’s Celeste collarless trim jacket is inspired by classic ladylike fashion but is updated with a daring bright yellow. The tweed fabric contains hints of black and has frayed edges. Sport the piece with the matching A-line skirt and a white blouse for a daytime office look. For nighttime, trade the skirt for black menswear trousers and heeled sandals.
