Milan Fashion Week Fall 2012: Moschino
For Pre-Fall, Rossella Jardini showed chic, well-put-together ladylike ensembles that had a little fun with a painted graffiti print. It coincided well with the quirky aesthetic that Moschino is known for and Jardini continued the energy straight into Fall, but this season the upbeat collection took cues from a parade. She was in the mood for a celebration.
Dazzling in bold primary colors of red, yellow and blue, the models stomped down the runway to a marching band soundtrack at the Milan Fashion Week Fall 2012 presentation. The ensembles were on the mod side with sweet shifts in colorblocked patterns, drop waist dresses and short bandleader jackets detailed with gold buttons that were worn as dresses – a flirty take on the band uniform. To contrast the look, and since a parade could pull from nearly any theme, active paneled leggings paired with ski sweaters and edgy quilted miniskirts with matching jackets were mixed in for sharpness. The looks were completed with giant bows or cowboy hats that spoke to Jardini’s humor.

Midway through the show, the palette abruptly switched to a graphic black and white. This time the mod silhouettes found energy with gingham, stripes, distorted checkerboards and dots prints. Jardini incorporated a bit of luxe with a lush black fur coat with white fur trim and ostrich feather skirts that paired with quilted jackets. She also took the embellishment to another level with a helmet that was covered in ostrich feathers. All black leather and satin looks of tiered drop-waist dresses, skinny pants with cropped jackets and coatdresses were almost whimsical under Jardini’s creative direction, in comparison to the shadowy vibes from her fellow Milan counterparts.

There were questionable moments in Jardini’s lineup, but it is simply her nature to bring in haphazard components and somehow make it work with her eccentric methods. In a very Moschino way, the ostrich feather helmet, cowboy hats and black and white prints made for a chic parade.
