Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Spring 2012: Ksubi
Over the past 12 years, Ksubi has become one of the most recognizable and famous Australian brands as the men behind it, Dan Single and George Gorrow, have successfully built a significant presence and a cult following. Known for its signature denim, conceptual feats and topical aesthetics, Ksubi consistently inspires the modern generation. Remaining uninfluenced by consumer trends and choosing instead to set its own agenda, the social commentary that originates from Ksubi is as relevant and thought-provoking as ever. Ideas, individuality and authenticity have developed the brand into a subculture that encompasses all that is fashion, art and music.
Presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, Ksubi’s Spring 2012 collection displayed a modern array of sporty ensembles. The muted palette of grey, light blue, pale green and metallic silver contrasted with silhouettes of anorak vests and matching shorts, athletic-inspired outerwear and fitted dresses. Single and Gorrow reinvented denim with loose drawstring vests and jackets layered over bandeaus and relaxed pants. Mesh sport bra tops were paired with hooded sweatshirt vests and metallic silver pants.

The sporty styles were balanced with black and white floral prints and mint green palm tree patterns but remained cohesive with an athletic sensibility. In monochrome fashion, floral jackets were styled with track-inspired shorts; palm tree t-shirts were combined with skin-hugging pants and infinity scarves; and fitted turtleneck sleeveless dresses were paneled with complementing black.
Single and Gorrow’s sport-inspired collection appropriately took notes from the ‘90s with sweaters tied around the waist and slicked straight hair parted in the middle. The bandeaus and sport bras worn as midriff baring tops also recalled moments from the iconic decade.
Ksubi’s Spring collection was a fresh demonstration of design that embodied the brand’s avant-garde styling.
