Spring 2014: 5 Must-Have Trends
From New York to Paris, the S/S 14 shows have wrapped and we’re looking to all cities to dissect what will be trending next spring. With old trends making a comeback and newbies finding their way on the runways, here are 5 must-haves for the season.
Allover Print
Print steps up its game for the season, being carried over onto trims, hems and cuff finishes on dresses, tops and pants. Featuring everything from nautical, to floral prints, hues of blue proved to be a popular color amongst designers. Come spring, don’t be afraid to engage in a little head-to-toe print action.
Cropped Tops
The cropped top made a comeback this summer and it looks like it’s here to stay for Spring 2014. Taking the runways by storm, designers Tommy Hilfiger and Jacquemus opted for cropped fleece and jersey styles that were generous in fit and sleeve widths. Tanks and tighter long sleeve versions were also sported.
Tunic Dresses
The tunic dress, specifically in a shift silhouette, will be a key direction for Spring 2014 dresses. Seen in both knit and woven styles, mesh, contrast trims and asymmetrical hems added visual interest to runway designs. These casual and comfy styles will pair perfectly with spring’s simple sandal.
Athletic Mesh
One of our personal favorites, athletic mesh was incorporated into dresses, tops and pants for an overall sporty feel. Seen in both woven and knit pieces, designers also incorporated embellishments, two-tone piecing and colorblock designs into this aesthetic.
Zipped Blouson
Forget your old worn out hoodie, the zip front jacket is back for spring and taking on new dimensions. Boxy styles in neoprene-like fleece and mesh give these jackets a casual, yet put together look. Look for embellishments, colorblock and activewear styles come spring.
