Summer Relaxation: Hyatt Pacific Waters Spa in Huntington Beach
Whether you’re from California or need to escape the humidity of the Big Apple for a weekend, the Pacific Waters Spa at the Hyatt Regency in Huntington Beach should be your first stop after arriving in the beach city.
The tranquil bungalow is tucked inside the resort, which boasts 517 guest rooms, the award-winning Californian restaurant, a lagoon-like pool and a two-minute walk to the beach. The Pacific Waters spa, which is 20,000 square-feet, has 17 treatment areas. Although the spa can supply necessary treatments for every season, as summer is winding down there is one thing your skin definitely needs: hydration.
The Pacific Waters Spa offers three treatments to hydrate the face and body from the harsh, drying effects of the summer sun. First, there is the Thalasso Seawater Bath, which uses purified seawater from the Pacific Ocean. The hydrotherapy brings moisture back into the skin, and prepares it for deeper nourishment. If you’d rather start with the face, the Moisture Surge Facial is an invigorating facial treatment that removes impurities from the skin, using restorative surge gel, a hydrating mineral mask and enzyme therapy, bringing your face back to life, just in time for fall!
Once the body is cleansed and ready, it’s time for some exfoliation. The Pacific Island Hydration starts off with a pineapple and papaya scrub, yummy enough to eat, which takes away anything irritating the surface of your skin. Guests might wonder why the rooms smell so good. It could be the coconut mist, which is applied after the scrub and before the moisturizer.
After these treatments, the Primo Wrap is recommended. The active ingredient in the treatment is called propolis, which is known for its immune boosting properties and restorative powers. Fun fact: bees make it! Gently massaged into the skin, the wrap locks in nutrients and hydrates the skin.
Pacific Waters was gracious enough to let me test out the facial, which totally lived up to the name. My aesthetician, Gloria, made my skin go from dull and dry from the sun, to sun-kissed and healthy. When I was getting ready to go in the locker-room, a woman actually told me, “You’re glowing!”
Epicuren is the maker of many of the spa’s products, which is a local beauty brand created in Laguna Hills, just half an hour south of the spa. The spa is very supportive of their neighbor and retailer, who is known for creating antioxidant-rich and restorative creams, as well as powerful sunblocks.
If the treatments aren’t relaxing enough, the Mediterranean architecture and ocean views might lull you into submission. When you’re done with your treatments, you can head to The Village, the on-site shopping plaza or take in the view with a seat by the pool.
If you live locally, treat yourself to a seasonal or spa-goer membership, which allows a monthly complimentary service along with special discounts on spa services and products. Not to mention, valet parking and free usage of the main resort pool, steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, quiet room and spa patio.
