Wellness Wednesday: 3 Steps to All Natural Skincare
Ever heard the saying, “What goes on your body, goes in your body?” Just as you check what’s in your food, you may want to start checking the ingredients in your skincare products as well. Get rid of your chemical filled cleansers and toners and go the au naturel route with items you probably already have in your kitchen. Follow this simple, three step regimen every night and wake up with baby soft skin you’ll be proud to show off.
Step 1: Cleanse
Remove the day’s makeup, dirt and oil the natural way with raw, unfiltered honey. With antibacterial properties, this natural moisturizer acts as a mild exfoliator to leave skin soft and supple.
Benefits:
- Relieves dryness and irritation
- Curbs breakouts
- Improves skin tone
- Loaded with antioxidants
- Rich in alpha-hydroxy acids
Try it: Dampen your skin with warm water and apply the honey using gentle circular motions for about a minute. Then rinse and pat dry. Tip: you can also apply honey as a mask and leave it on for 30 minutes to reap its benefits.
Step 2: Tone
Not only will you save big bucks by making your own toner with apple cider vinegar (ACV), but you’ll be doing your skin a big favor as well. Be sure to purchase organic, raw and unfiltered ACV with “the mother.” The mother of the vinegar refers to naturally occurring strand-like enzymes that are needed for therapeutic benefit.
Benefits:
- Balances the pH level of your skin
- Improves overall complexion
- Improves acne and acne scars
- Lightens sun and age spots
- Reduces inflammation
Try it: Mix 2 parts ACV with 2 parts distilled water. Use a cotton ball or pad and sweep across your face and neck after cleansing. Allow time to dry before applying your moisturizer. Store in a glass container. Note: test your skin first with a more diluted version to be sure your skin doesn't react negatively.
Step 3: Moisturize
Save your skin from harsh chemicals by using virgin coconut oil as your nightly moisturizer. At around $7 for a 16oz jar, your wallet and skin will thank you.
Benefits:
- Promotes hydration
- Improves moisture and lipid content
- Antibacterial properties great for acne, dermatitis and eczema
- Anti-aging
- Antioxidants protect against free radicals
Try it: Apply a dime-sized dollop after toning the skin and smooth over face and neck. Use something to spoon out the oil so not to contaminate it with your fingers over time.
