30 Days of Meditation

For years, I use to practice the art of meditation daily—sometimes my practice would include tonal therapy, sometimes the use of minerals, the variables dependent on what I felt called to “do.” The only constant was my dedication to the practice and listening to the divine guidance I received from these sacred moments. My biggest challenge in the early days was releasing my faith and quieting my mind to allow inner peace and guidance to come. When I started LadyLUX, I was 100% tech junky from 6am to midnight and a spiritual seeker until the wee hours in the morning. I maybe slept two hours a night, but never had I felt more alive. Despite being one of the most challenging times in my life with the amalgam of personal undertakings, I was completely content. I attribute my happiness and wellbeing to three things: living in congruency, feeding myself spiritually and regularly quieting the mind through meditation.

Almost four years from this time in my life and launching LadyLUX, it's time to get back to basics and the practice of meditation. I'm going to share with you:

  • my practice
  • tips and tricks
  • what I learn along the way
  • how it improves my life

30 Days of Raw Food

For my 30-day challenge, I decided to go raw for the entire month of January. This means nothing cooked over 118 degrees, no processed foods, no packaged foods and no microwaves, just nutritious and delicious fruits, veggies and nuts. I know that for most, it seems a bit extreme, and maybe it is. However, after watching three documentaries—Food Inc., Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and Forks Over Knives—I’ve been trying to switch to a more plant-based diet. I’ve never gone completely raw, although I’ve always wondered about it. So, when LadyLUX asked me to do a 30-day challenge, I thought it was the perfect avenue for me to go raw because I hate disappointing people and being held accountable by our faithful LadyLUX readers was one way I knew I’d stay on track. I’m going to start as soon as the clock strikes midnight on Jan. 1. For the first two days, I’ll eat a regular raw diet. Then, for the next three days, I’m going to do a Ritual Reset Cleanse, followed by a regular raw diet for the remainder of the month. I know I’m going to be learning throughout this process, but I’m curious to see if I’ll feel any different, if I’ll feel full off of this diet and if the benefits will outweigh the cupcake cravings. 30 Days of Trying New Things

I've always believed that you should try everything once, that variety is the spice of life and that taking risks can reap rewards. That being said, it's easy to fall into the mundane routines of everyday life. It's easy to plop down on the couch after work with a microwavable dinner and get lost in trashy T.V. As this seems to have become a typical night in my world, it's time to shake things up a bit and experience more of what life has to offer. For my 30-day challenge, I am committing to trying something new every day. Something I have never done before. I want to challenge myself, get out of my comfort zone and take some much needed “me” time. Through this journey I hope to open my eyes up to new experiences, broaden my horizons and maybe even learn a few things along the way. Follow my quest for a more exciting life at @jessiemwilson.

30 Days of Going Vegan

For my 30-day challenge, I’m going vegan. To be honest, the thought of living entirely without animal products after consuming them every day for the last 26 years is a bit scary, but, luckily, I’m already halfway there! I became a vegetarian two years ago and, after reading and researching A LOT on this topic, the overwhelming environmental, ethical and health reasons for going vegan have finally reached a critical mass; I’m ready to go all the way. Yet, questions remain: Will I really be able to say no to cheese? Will my meat-loving family excommunicate me? Are these warnings of soy risks for real? Though we’re committing for 30 days, I’m hoping this challenge will lay the groundwork for a more compassionate and healthy lifestyle in 2013 and beyond. Please follow me as I share all the ups and downs of the plant-based diet at @TaraCarberry and feel free to email me with thoughts or questions at Tara@ladylux.com!
